You can delete everything yourself, from inside the app. It is immediate and permanent — we do not hold your data in a recycle bin and we cannot undo it.
If you have an account
- Open BuzVault and go to Settings.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete account and confirm.
If you use BuzVault without an account
Everything you saved is stored against your device, not an email address. You do not need to create an account to remove it.
- Open BuzVault and go to Settings.
- Tap Delete my data and confirm.
What gets deleted
- Every link you saved, with its title, thumbnail, notes, tags, favourites and reminders.
- Your categories and your collections (boards).
- Any board you shared — the share link stops working immediately and people you invited lose access.
- Your membership of other people’s boards, and every save you had added to them.
- Your public profile and @handle. The handle becomes free for someone else to take.
- Your followers and the people you followed, in both directions.
- Anyone you blocked, and any block against you.
- Your search embeddings (what makes meaning-based search work).
- Your email address, password hash, Google account link, display name and bio.
- Your devices and all sign-in tokens — the app will be signed out everywhere.
What we keep, and why
A one-way hash of your email address and Google ID, plus the number of saves you had used against your free allowance — for 365 days.
Free use includes a set number of saves, counted once, for life — it is not a monthly quota and it does not reset. Without this row, deleting an account and signing up again with the same address would hand out a fresh allowance, which would make free use unlimited for anyone who noticed. We store a SHA-256 hash, not your address — we cannot read an address back out of it, and it is used for nothing else. After 365 days the row is deleted automatically. Deleting your account does not restore your free allowance.
- Reports you filed about other people’s content are kept, with your identity and IP address removed from them. A report is a record about someone else’s content; deleting it on request would let anyone erase the complaints against a piece of content by deleting the account that filed them. Reports filed against your content are deleted along with the content.
- Cached link previews. We cache what a public URL looks like — its title and thumbnail — keyed by the URL and shared across all users. It records nothing about who saved it, so there is nothing personal in it to delete.
Backups
Your data goes from the live database immediately. But the database is backed up every night, and a copy of your data can remain inside an encrypted backup until that backup expires:
- 14 days for copies on the server;
- 35 days for the daily offsite copies;
- 395 days for the monthly offsite copies.
Then they are deleted automatically. We do not restore a backup to bring back deleted accounts, and we do not use backups for anything except recovering from a failure.
Prefer to email us?
Email help@buzvault.com with the subject “Delete my BuzVault account”, from the email address on the account. We delete the account within 7 days of receiving the request.
We ask you to write from the account’s own address because it is the only way we can tell that the request is really yours — we have no other way to verify it, and acting on an unverified request would let anyone delete someone else’s vault. If you cannot access that address, tell us and we will ask you for something else that shows the account is yours.
